10 Reasons to visit Lisbon

1 - The Culture

Lisbon is the second oldest capital in Europe, just after Athens, and it is one of the world's greatest historical cities. What truly makes the city unique is its history. Portuguese culture is based on a past that dates from prehistoric times to the eras of the Roman as Moorish invansions.
Some of the most important monuments, like Jeronimos Monastery, Belém Tower, or the St.George's Castle can be found in the old historical center of the city.
The city also maintain its traditions, like Fado and Lisbon's cultural events.

2 - Portuguese Hospitality 



The Portuguese people welcome diversity and love meeting new people. If you need any information or direction, just ask some local people and they will help you right away. The portuguese poeple are very hospitable and love to help everyone with a friendly smile.

                                            3- The Weather


Portugal has over 3,000 hours of sun per yer.

With a mild Mediterranean climate, Lisbon is the perfect place to spend lots of time outdoors. In the summer, temperatures in Lisbon average out at around 26-28ºC. In the winter temperatures in Lisbon average out at around 8-20ºC. 
 

4 -The Portuguese food


Lisbon has one of the best cuisines in the world, where you can eat a little bit of everything for a good price. You must try the famous Portuguese Stew, a bifana (a steak sandwich) accompanied by a beer, all kinds of seafood, and, of course, the famous custard tart. The average price for a meal with starter, main course, dessert and wine is 15 euros per person, but you can find places that are cheaper.



5 - Lisbon Nightlife

At night there are several different clubs and bars to go dance or to have a drink. You can go to Bairro Alto or Rua Cor de Rosa (in Cais do Sodre) and have fun between the different streets that exist there. The street bars close at around two in the morning, and the prices ranged from one euro and 7 euros. A beer or a shot costs around one euro, white spirits like vodka or caipirinhas cost around 5 euros. The most expensive drinks are called "buckets":  a liter of white drink with juice for 7 euros.
The nightclubs in Lisbon usually have minimum mandatory consumption, between 6 and 20 euros. The drinks in the disco cost between 4 euros (a beer) and 8 euros (a white drink). The night in Lisbon starts late, and the clubs only begin to fill at around 2 am and close at 6am.

Lisbon is considered one of the cheapest cities in Europe - oficially Western Europe's least expensive capital.


7 - Beaches and Surf

What about beaches? Well, in Lisbon you have two main coasts both about 20 mins away that are really beautiful and paradisiacal. If you cross the 25 de Abril bridge, you will find Costa da Caparica right away, with more than 10 extraordinary beaches along it with very clear water and clear sand. If you prefer to stay in the north side of the bridge you can just take the train and also go to very beautiful and clean beaches along Linha de Cascais. 

8 - The Typical Neighborhoods



You will get to know the true essence of Lisbon as you start to explore the oldest neighborhoods like Alfama. You will find seductive corners, narrow streets, where it is possible to forget time and discover the secrets of the past.


9 - Safety

Lisbon is one of the safest capitals of all Europe. But you have to be careful with the pickpockets that are always looking for distracted people for an opportunity to take your belongings. Always be alert!
